S1 E2 Why am I writing this blog?

If you have read my previous post, you would know what I am talking about. But if you did not, just know that blogging or creating online content in general, is not exactly my favourite pass time. Why? I’ll talk about that in a later post.

So then, why am I writing this post? Why am I not reading a book or listening to music but sitting here, ‘blogging’ when I don’t like it? I wish I could give you a profound answer to that. Some great realisation or life lesson that I came across and would now share it with you. But it’s nothing like that.

This blog, and the ones that will follow are an academic necessity. It’s that simple. Approximately a week from now, I’ll be sitting in front of an examiner (almost certainly virtually), and answering viva, based on these blogs and a couple of other assignments we were supposed to do for this particular subject. And before that, I’ll have to explain to my professor why I have not completed the required number of posts as yet, and why the current blog does not talk about films or books as mentioned in my proposal.

You would think I should have been more responsible with my assignments; that I should have completed my work on time; that I should be writing something more fruitful that talking about everything I could not do.

But, you see, two months ago, or even one month ago the panic had not set in. One month ago, I would not have meant any of the things I said over here. One month ago, this would not have been the story you were reading. One month ago, I would be just another blog that nobody cared about.

But right now, every single word is more honest than any of us can ever be to our fellow human beings. I mean everything I am saying, and I get to tell a story that would otherwise never be shared. Of course this is not going to become some great blog magically. It would be a surprise if more than five people read it. However, two years later, when I read this again, and laugh at this outrageous idea for a blog, I would not regret not working on time. In fact, I might be just a little proud.

So, if you’re struggling with assignments too, or remembering the time in your college, join me on this short journey till the end of my semester. We’ll find out how many of those assignments I am able to complete. Being the first ever virtual year, we’ll look at how was this online semester and wonder how my last year would have been if it were offline — the way we initially planned it to be.

Finally, as we’ll come to the end of the journey, I’ll let you know my evaluator’s feedback of this hopefully wonderful idea for a blog; let you know whether they liked it or loved it. That should also give you a fair idea of whether or not you should consider following my life advice. Meet you at the next post.
